Genesis
IL&FS Transportation Networks (India) Limited (ITNL) was formed
by Infrastructure
Leasing and Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) to create a pan-India
surface transport business. IL&FS has identified the Transport Sector
as an area of focus and represents itself in this sector through
ITNL. It has therefore domiciled its transport sector investments
and resources in ITNL.
IL&FS has successfully completed and is also in the process of implementing
several significant road sector projects through ITNL. Government
initiatives in this sector have been significant at both the Central
and State levels. Noteworthy among these are the efforts by the
National Highway Authority of India to execute the ‘Golden Quadrilateral’
and the ‘North-South & East-West Corridor’ projects.
These developments have created opportunities for:
- Agglomerating various transport sector assets – risk diversification
- Sponsoring new projects in the sector
- Providing advisory services to governments as well as private
sector developers
Business Model
ITNL intends to agglomerate assets through acquisitions
– both IL&FS and non-IL&FS sponsored. It also intends to participate
in green field projects and provide advisory services.
As a first step, the holdings of IL&FS and existing Financial Investors
in the IL&FS sponsored projects are being transferred to ITNL.
At present, ITNL is also identifying non-IL&FS sponsored projects
for participation. It will draw on the Project Development Partnerships
established with the various State governments to source project
development and advisory mandates. |
